issue #19 - spring 2026

The art of collage has a special appeal and relevance in our current and ever shifting fragmented global reality. Collage is about removing something from its original context and re-contextualizing it into something new. The physical act of cutting and pasting inherent to the medium mirrors the chaotic division and erosion of boundaries we are confronting today as political alliances shift and economies become more nationalized. Everything is being re-cut, re-thought, re-evaluated, from geopolitical shocks and shifts, to tariff hikes and economic chaos. And in a world increasingly sterilized by AI “perfection” a collage has become a radical and beautiful act of human identity. With that in mind our main feature in this issue Chaos to Composition and the Act of Collage is about the art form of collage. Written by Alex Mendi, an artist whose own art practice is centered broadly around collage, we introduce eight artists each with a unique approach to collage - from works rooted in political activism to light hearted and humorous juxtapositions.
